Question: What is the Web Privacy Controls service?

Answer: The Web Privacy Controls service helps you protect your personal information by alerting you when protected personal information is about to be transmitted over the Internet.

The Web Privacy Controls service provides three categories of personal information you might want to protect:

  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Credit card

You can add additional categories of personal information to protect, such as a person’s name, bank account, and so forth.

Note: The Web Privacy Controls service monitors HTTP traffic (port numbers 80, 81 and 8080) and any proxy server port you configure in Internet Explorer. The Web Privacy Controls service does not support HTTPS traffic since HTTPS protocol uses encrypted information that cannot be filtered.
